Issue #36: My Guide To Educating Yourself To Become Wealthy: Social Media

Social Media is an essential tool for financial education

As we continue to grow and continue to be Loud, will always appreciate you for taking 5-10min of your day to read what I have to say, thank you!

This week I encourage you follow some of my trusted planners, start letting them educate you on your wealth journey!

How does one educate themselves to becoming truly wealthy?

Over the course of the next 5 issues I will breakdown how I use each of the following mediums:

Books

Social Media

Youtube

Podcasts

Webinars/Seminars

Now selfishly I will be plugging my own content in these sections but also will be highlighting whom I go to to learn and develop my skills/education to better my clients wealth journey. Let’s get started!

Can Social Media Help You Grow Your Wealth?

Social media can be a fun and easy way to connect with friends and family. But did you know that it can also help you learn about money and make smart financial decisions?

  • "The Impact of Social Media on Financial Literacy." by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), 2022.) found that social media users are more likely to be financially literate than non-users. The study also found that social media can be used to reach a large audience with financial education messages.

  • "The Role of Social Media in Financial Education: A Review of the Literature." by the Journal of Financial Education, 2021., found that social media can influence financial decision-making. The study found that people who use social media are more likely to save money and invest for the future.

As always, the internet is full of trolls and people who want to take advantage of you, so to combat that make sure you are vetting these people out, use https://brokercheck.finra.org/ to look up their licensing, ask ME to vet them out or the others I will be naming later.

Stoy…Who TF Can I trust??

You know I wasn’t going to make you go search on your own! I have a great network of badass people to learn from, in whatever media you so choose. First I will summarize each platform and what you’ll find, then layout who I trust that you can learn from.

As I speak on each platform, I know you are all not on them but some insight and to see some posts may trigger you to want to get involved and learn more!

Twitter

Is growing rapidly in financial education space, many planners I know have doubled their clientele base from twitter alone! I am out there trying as well. What you will find are threads that get to the meat of a concept/topic, for example here is one from just yesterday about Donor-advised funds (DAF), did you know what those were?

Or just nice reminders to get shit done

Linkedin

Yes…I know you get bombarded with requests to sell your soul to the devil or cold reach outs to go to coffee. I get them too, like 20 a day, however the content that is out there is amazing, you will find it easier to vet out who is legit and who is not, because of the professionalism provided from linkedin, whew thank the lord. Video you can obviously get on all platforms but Linkedin you will get snippets designed to inform you.

Instagram

Who isn’t on instagram? My marketing team forced me to be involved, last year, I definitely can say I do not regret it! Albeit Facebook owns Instagram, insta has a different flair to it. You will find more short videos(reels) as well as graphic posts with some content in the description or nice easy to read graphics that get the point across.

Honestly, I am trying to up my instagram as well, because you all deserve to know us personally as well, this isn’t just finance only. You will see my boys and food, A LOT as well as some of my tweets and reels. You want to know more about alternative investing, females in finance or learn from a powerful black woman leading the charge in our industry…got them all for you.

Okay… having some embedding of instagram issues but here are the three women to follow (stupid tech, not working when I want it to)

Facebook

I won’t stay long on facebook, well because you all have had it for 20 years, pretty sure you know how it operates. I will highlight that you are seeing more of our industry utilizing their personal pages to show you who they are but add in advice…if you follow me I have been a lot heavier on the advice side of the isle, as I am being more aggressive..LOUDER for all to hear. Financial education is a must.

Tiktok

Yes…tiktok, no not necessarily the dancing around or the other issues with Tiktok but tiktok with real advisors giving great content. You will find a lot of similar reels/shorts from us as well as article reviews or short concept conversations.

Social media is a newer fade for my industry and thankfully for Covid, meeting a planner virtually is simple and less stressful for you! As we continue to get real, honest, content out to you, it may seem overwhelming, shit it is overwhelming, just follow those you can trust (my list below) and when you are needing an answer you will know where to go!
