This week I encourage you to figure out if you are wealthy or not.

Being Wealthy = Happiness, Giving Back, Leaving a Legacy, Living Life on Your Terms

There it is, it’s that simple, take my word for it… SMH.

OBVIOUSLY more goes into it than being that simple, however I want you to truly think about Wealth for a moment….. Being Rich means I have all the money in the world but being Wealthy… that hit’s different, that is focused on more on how you feel and are able to achieve. This does not mean you need to be a billionaire, millionaire, or even have $100k.

Let me tell you about my trip to Tanzania, back in 2011, as part of a trip I did with my football family at Drake University.

May of 2011, my team took a little 2 weeks trip to Tanzania, to participate in a international football game against the Mexican All-star team, to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, to help build an orphanage, as well as other humanitarian missions. I will eventually do an issue solely on this trip but I wanted to highlight just the first 2 hours after we landed.

As we get off the plane, we are greeted immediately by a group of Maasai’s doing some sort of welcome dance, which equated to them jumping, chanting and playing drums. When I say they were jumping I meant he all had 40 inch verticals!!! Not shitting you. After getting our passports stamped, we start to head out to our hotel. Mind you this is dusk and in Tanzania, there are no street lights and when it gets dark it get’s DARK, peaceful though. So we are traveling through villages and I noticed that the women are sweeping/cleaning up their homes. Nothing crazy about that except these are mud huts, the floors are mud/dirt, to me this humbled me so fast. These people are “poor” in western minds, yet are upkeeping their mud floors by sweeping them. It didn’t stop there, they would stop and look up and wave with the biggest smiles I have ever seen in my life. I’ll fast forward to when we arrive at the hotel and these women and kids, were there to greet us and even offer us local foods etc. I am sure some of them just wanted things from us but this one family handed me a handmade sculpture just for visiting their country.

Like I said this is the first 2 hours and I can go on and on about this 2 week trip, especially the orphanage that is owned by an Iowan Doctor…later issue. Even in that quick view, you realize that being Wealthy is being at peace with everything you have. Being wealthy isn’t about money, being rich is but not wealthy. Wealthy is being happy, being able to give to others and support your community (wherever that may be). As I write this it chokes me up remembering the pure and utter joy of their lives and realizing how much I wish every human on this planet ESPECIALLY Americans could see the true meaning of life and the wealth of knowledge, peace and caring you can see in people who have way less than us but are WAY better off at the same time.

This issue is to be kept short so you can have time to reflect on what your TRUE Wealth looks like and how you can “sweep your mud floors”. Next week we will dive into how to achieve your True Wealth.
